Q: How did virtual production help you bring the futuristic elements of the story to life in a way that felt grounded and visually compelling?

It was rendered really well and allowed the character to interact with the filesThe ability for the character to sift through 'futuristic archives' on a screen

Q: Were there any creative opportunities unlocked by using this format—such as visual metaphors or stylized scenes?

Yes both of the above

Q: How did it impact your workflow from prep through post?

Worked wonderfully!

Q: Do you see a future for this method in your non-fiction storytelling toolkit?

Yes!

2) Auto or MV Director

Q: What made you consider using virtual production for this shoot in the first place?

SXB thought of me to direct this MV/performance video, and it was a great chance to test virtual production’s potential. We wanted to demonstrate how efficient the process could be — from concept to shoot in under a week, and the final edit delivered just a bit later.

Shooting a girl band always comes with high expectations — choreography, styling, makeup/hair, and overall visual polish all need to be on point, like in a glamorous commercial. Having the speed and control that virtual production offers made a real difference. As a director, being able to switch from day to night, sunshine to rain, or racing in tunnels on monster bikes — all within the same studio — was an amazing experience. It’s where efficiency meets comfort, for everyone on set.

What were you aiming to achieve creatively with this project, and how did the virtual production approach support that vision?

Q: What were you aiming to achieve creatively with this project, and how did the virtual production approach support that vision?

We were aiming for a bold, performance-driven piece with the polish of a fashion film: something dynamic, sleek, and confident, without relying on traditional sets or locations. The girls had to shine, the choreography had to breathe, and the visuals had to elevate the energy without distracting from the performance.

Virtual production made that possible. It gave us full control over lighting, camera movement, and environments, letting us shift from tunnels to rain to dreamy landscapes instantly, while keeping the focus tight on the group. It allowed us to stay creative without losing time or precision, and helped us deliver something ambitious on a very efficient timeline.

Q: How did shooting in a volume differ from your usual experience filming on location?

It’s a very different rhythm. On location, you’re constantly adapting to the environment: light changes, weather, logistics, etc. In the volume, you’re in full control. You walk in, and it’s already night, or golden hour, or raining — whatever you need. That changes everything in terms of efficiency and focus. We weren’t wasting time moving between setups or chasing light. It was smooth, contained, and surprisingly comfortable. For me, it felt closer to studio shooting, but with the visual flexibility of location, without the hassle.

Q: Were there any moments in the process that surprised you in terms of what was possible on set?

The ability to switch environments instantly without resetting the whole setup was a game changer. We went from a bright outdoor scene to a night tunnel chase in minutes, without moving the camera or the talent. That kind of flexibility usually takes a full day and a lot of compromise on location. Also, seeing real-time previews with proper lighting and reflections gave us way more confidence during the shoot. It wasn’t about imagining the final result, we could see it, adjust it, and shoot it right away. That was a new kind of freedom and a lot less headaches during post-production.

Q: What advantages (creative or logistical) stood out to you while working on this project?

One of the most interesting things was how fast we could build and dress the virtual set. Instead of a full art department moving pieces around, we were adjusting the entire composition on a screen within minutes. With Unreal Engine, you can experiment without breaking a sweat or the budget. That, plus the speed of execution and the comfort of working in air-conditioned studios, right in the heart of Bangkok, makes a huge difference. It’s no surprise Hollywood studios and streaming platforms keep coming back: they get to enjoy Thailand during their downtime and work in a professional, comfortable environment when it’s time to shoot.

Q: How did using virtual environments impact your directing approach or the performance of the talent?

Compared to green or blue screen, virtual production is a whole different experience. The talent can actually see and feel the environment around them, which helps them immerse themselves fully and brings a sense of realism and authenticity to their performance. We were able to shoot a rain scene where every drop fell over a visible, detailed background — something that’s nearly impossible with chromakey. And for both the talent and the crew, being in a safe, air-conditioned studio while switching locations or even entire worlds within minutes was a huge plus. From high-speed car scenes to giant creatures, it gave the actors something real to react to. That makes a big difference on set.

3) Production Companies

Q: What made you think virtual production was the right fit for this project?

Flexibity of changing the background for the various scenes we had to do. Which allowed us to do so much more in the time we had.

Q: How did using Studio X’s virtual stage impact the way you approached production planning and execution?

The general planning remained the same, but the main difference was how to approach the timing of each set up.

Q: What kind of creative or logistical advantages did virtual production bring to your team and your client?

We had more flexibity creatively, due to the challenging budget.Which made it possible for us to push on thst aspect.

Q: Were there any standout moments where the volume made something possible that would’ve been hard or expensive otherwise?

The set build that we needed to do were going to be a lot more expensive if we did them in real.

Q: How did working in a virtual stage environment influence how your team collaborated across departments

It was an extra step that the team had to think about. Another prep timing in the schedule that we needed to have.

Q: How did your client respond to the final result and the production process?

The clientsnwere happy with the final results, the difficulties was the production process.Everyone isnt used to this yet, so the waiting time might be longer than what they would expect.

Q: What was your experience collaborating with the Studio X team — both creatively and technically?

Good. The only difficulty would be the working space. The current size only allows for the production aspect, but not the service aspect when you would need space for clients, catering & craft.

Having spent the last decade focusing on high quality property films for the top hoteliers and independent developers globally.

I previously blended talent focused live action with CGI renders using green screen and compositing. Now I like to integrate with Volumetric studios.

Studio X and their team made us all feel super comfortable but really the overall space and the VFX supervision was world class!

The whole start to finish experience was cost effective, insightful and enjoyable.

With the help of the support team we were able to change screens, tweak where needed and shoot very quickly indeed allowing the day to run very smoothly.

I would definitely recommend Studio X and without a doubt and look forward to shooting future projects with them again.

We needed to transport our audience into a futuristic world where our character could seamlessly navigate digital archives on-screen. Studio X Beyond's virtual production approach was exactly what we were looking for. They helped us build that imagined future in a way that felt both grounded and visually stunning. The environment rendering was beautiful, and our talent could actually physically interact with the virtual files, which made everything feel incredibly authentic. What really impressed us was how this opened up creative possibilities we never would have had with traditional methods—like using stylized visual metaphors that really elevated our story. The entire process from prep to post was smooth and efficient. We'll definitely be using virtual production in our toolkit going forward, even for our non-fiction projects.

For this music video : Pixxie - Magic Car, where I wanted to depict a journey with a car in a realistic way, it would have been impossible to move across so many locations in a single day. We also had a surreal scenes toward the end, where Virtual Production and the Studio X Beyond team used Unreal Engine to create plates or backgrounds that transported the actors into a surreal yet believable world.

In my opinion, using screens to project the background with the talent also helps reduce post-production time and allows them to truly immerse themselves in the environment.

Virtual production became the perfect solution to make it happen with the supporting from Studio xBeyond team. They're helping me create my visual in my head came true with their well-equipped facilities and their full collaboration.

They were friendly, kind, and worked with me in a way that was both fun and highly professional.

Thank you everyone who involved on this project again! I hope we can work together again on another project that’s just as fun or even more exciting!
